Also known as the "Proto-Tyrant". The T-001 was Umbrella's first attempt in their pursuit for the ultimate biological soldier and involved the application of the T-virus with humans. The base subject for the T-001 was one of only two compatible specimens that Umbrella had managed to acquire. It is important to note that neither this or the later T-002 were the products of clones from Sergei Vladimir.
The Arklay Research Facility, when initiating the Tyrant Program, came across many issues in their research. The most prominent of which was the difficulty in producing a Tyrant. The Genetic Analytic team ran a number of simulations and discovered that the T-virus would only result in a Tyrant in humans with a specific genetic code, of which only a handful of people around the world were in possession of - 1 in 10 million.
Being the first Tyrant developed by Umbrella the results were mainly deemed a failure. The T-001 did not develop enough intelligence to follow commands and its physical form decayed and malformed as a result of the necrolysis effects of the T-virus. On top of this, essential organs were exposed including the heart and spinal column. As a result the specimen was due to be disposed of, although for reasons unexplained this did not happen.
The T-001 was somehow released from containment and began to run wild in the Umbrella Underground Laboratory beneath Raccoon City. During this time it was encountered by Rebecca Chambers who managed to subdue the Tyrant. However, the Tyrant managed to encounter Rebecca and Billy Coen a second time in the Umbrella power plant where it was defeated once again. The Tyrant persisted however, and later encountered Albert Wesker later on the same night, having to be defeated twice again before it was finally killed.
Despite being an overall failure, the T-001 retained the recovery ability of the T-virus and proved to be a formidable foe.
